Tel Aviv. In Israel, one person was killed and seven others were injured in a direct missile attack on a building in the city of Rehovot, 17 miles south of Tel Aviv. Israel’s National Emergency Medical Service (David Adom, MDA) gave this information on Thursday.
“A direct attack on a residential building in Rehovot,” the MDA tweeted. There are eight casualties in the incident: one is dead, four are in critical condition, one is slightly injured and two are in a state of shock. ”One person suffered multiple injuries and five injured were sent to Kaplan Hospital.
Earlier in the day, air raid sirens were heard repeatedly in several towns in southern Israel. Militants from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an Islamist paramilitary movement in the Gaza Strip on Thursday stepped up missile attacks against Israel after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) killed several of the movement’s commanders. According to the IDF they were responsible for rocket attacks against Israel.
Israel launched “Operation Shield and Arrow” on Tuesday night, carrying out airstrikes against militants including rocket launchers and mortars in the Gaza Strip and their infrastructure. In response, Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants fired 469 rockets into Israel on Wednesday, according to the IDF. On Thursday, the Palestinian health ministry said 25 people were killed and 76 wounded in Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip.
