May 12, 2023

What happened?

In late April, a cyclist came across the wreckage of an “air military object” that turned out to be a Russian Kh-55 missile that fell in December. The man was hiking in a forest near Bydgoszcz in northern Poland, 500 km from its eastern border, according to local media. The Polish government has not commented on this incident since.

Finally.. an official comment

On Thursday, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that on December 16, “Ukrainian authorities notified the Polish military that an unidentified aerial object was heading towards Poland”, according to Agence France Presse.

Polish soldiers and their American colleagues who are in this country closely followed the trajectory of the missile, including from their planes, according to the minister.

“The operations commander neglected his obligations as stipulated in the instructions, and he did not inform me of the accident, not even the government security center, nor the other services covered by these procedures,” Blaszczak said, without revealing the name of the accused official. .

On the other hand, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed that he “was only informed about this matter at the end of April, after the discovery of the remains of the body”.

Polish media reported that the missile “carried no armed warhead”, while the government did not confirm this information.
