Sudan.. Continued fighting exacerbates food supply chain crisis

In light of the great destruction that affected more than 90% of food and other consumer goods factories, the supply chains of markets and grocery stores have come to a complete halt.

Regarding the issue, Bella told Sky News Arabia: “It is impossible to continue to open groceries and shops in light of the current security conditions, the halt in the supply of goods and the significant increase in commodity prices that can still be obtained.”

He added: “The last three weeks have seen a significant rise in the prices of basic commodities, particularly sugar, flour and oils, with a number of products disappearing from store shelves that were working. still until now despite continued bombardments and struggles.”

Bella continued, “Prices of some commodities have more than tripled, which has added an additional burden to the consumer, who is already suffering from cash shortages due to delayed payment of wages, bank closures and the suspension of more than 95% of the daily activities which constitute the main source of income for more than 70% of the population. of 7 million after the outbreak of fighting, which led to the flight of more than 3 million to the interior regions and neighboring countries.

Despite international and regional efforts to calm the situation in the country, fighting between the two parties to the conflict intensified on Saturday and Sunday, which led to the burning of a number of markets and warehouses in the Omdurman and North Khartoum regions, and therefore accelerated the pace of closures and displacements.
