Ghajini. A child has been killed and another injured when an improvised explosive device left over from previous battles detonated in Afghanistan’s eastern Ghazni province. District Police Officer Niyaz Mohammad gave this information on Monday.
The incident took place in Diak district on Sunday when two children, aged nine and 12, were playing outside their house when they were shown a toy-like device and the two children took it home thinking it to be a toy, the official said. They attempted to leave, but the explosive device detonated in the children’s hands, killing one child and injuring another.
He told that this is the second such incident in the last six days. In an earlier incident, an improvised explosive device left over from previous battles went off in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Tuesday, killing two sisters. Afghanistan is reportedly one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, with unexploded explosives killing and injuring hundreds of people every month during four decades of wars.
