Ex-Egyptian minister donates millions to UK party

May 23, 2023

The network added that former Egyptian minister Mohamed Mansour had donated 5 million pounds ($6.2 million) to the ruling Conservative Party as a contribution to fund the party’s campaign in the upcoming elections.

Muhammad Mansour was Egypt’s transport minister before the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak’s regime in 2011.

And last December, Mansour became treasurer of the British Conservative Party.

Mansour did not deny his donation and wrote to the newspaper that the donation came from his confidence in Prime Minister and party leader Rishi Sunak.

He added: “I think this country has a very capable Prime Minister. He knows how to create growth in the modern economy. He knows the importance of technology and innovation. He can make the modern economy for all Britons.”

He added: “I want to give him (Sunak) the best opportunity to take on a full term for 5 years, so I have donated £5m to the party’s special election fund.”

This is the largest donation the Conservative Party has received in 20 years.

Mansour served as Egypt’s transport minister between 2006 and 2009, and he heads a business conglomerate founded by his father decades ago, employing around 60,000 people.
