Sydney: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with prominent Australian personalities working in various fields such as science, artificial intelligence (AI), social work and arts and music and asked them to contribute to strengthening India-Australia ties. Modi arrived in Sydney on Monday on the third and final leg of his three-nation tour. He will hold talks with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on Wednesday.
Among the celebrities Modi met were Nobel laureate Brian Paul Schmidt, ‘toilet warrior’ Mark Balla, artist Daniel Mate, rockstar Guy Sebastian and celebrity chef and restaurateur Sarah Todd. Apart from these, Professor Toby Walsh, Head Scientist at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and author and researcher Salvatore Bebons also called on Prime Minister Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs tweeted, “Taken forward the relationship between culture and people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with prominent personalities from Australia working in various fields such as science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social work, gastronomy, art and music.
“PM Modi congratulated these personalities on their achievements and encouraged them to contribute towards strengthening India-Australia ties,” the ministry said. He praised Prime Minister Modi for this. Balla told that he discussed the subject of cleanliness with the Prime Minister. “‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in India… (Modi) is the top leader in bringing a change in the field of cleanliness globally,” he said after the meeting. Celebrity chef Todd was also very impressed after meeting Modi. He described the Indian Prime Minister as an ‘incredible and influential personality’.
Nobel laureate Schmidt said he had a very enriching conversation with Prime Minister Modi on science and research. He described Modi as one of the most influential leaders India has ever had. The Met said that Prime Minister Modi is creative and he can see similarities in the art and culture of both the countries. Sebastian spoke with Modi about his mother, who hails from Kanpur, India, apart from music. He said the Prime Minister showed him a clip of the song ‘Naatu Naatu’. Sebastian said it was something he would try to learn.
