What does Kissinger say about artificial intelligence and the position on China?

– Published on:

Perhaps one of his most important opinions of the current period is related to the position on China, artificial intelligence, the Ukrainian crisis and the Third World War.

artificial intelligence

Despite being 100 years old, an age where few people want or can learn about the latest technology and technology, Kissinger can be said to have become obsessed with artificial intelligence.

He even collaborated with two co-authors on a 2021 book titled “The Age of Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humans.”

Kissinger has more than once expressed concern that artificial intelligence or machines could cause global crises and cause massive damage, noting that circumstances demand responsible leaders at the helm who try “to avoid conflict.”

He said the US goal of maintaining human control over AI was “a highly desirable goal,” but said “the speed at which AI operates will make it problematic in crisis situations.”

He said humans can’t go through all the knowledge the machine has acquired, adding: “We give it that knowledge…I’m now trying to do what I did with nuclear weapons, d draw attention to the significant impact of this development.”

He pointed out that there will be an arms race with artificial intelligence, “but it will be different. Because in previous arms races you can develop plausible theories about how you won. That’s a completely new intellectual problem”.

Tension between Washington and Beijing

On China-US relations, Kissinger said escalating tensions between Washington and Beijing could turn into a conflict between the two sides, and stressed that China cannot be excluded from the international system.

Kissinger said in an interview with the American Wall Street Journal: “I think China, given its strength, is a potential and dangerous adversary of the United States.

“I think it could turn into a conflict. We have two societies with historical worldviews, but different cultures are competing with each other,” he added, noting that the “problem” in the South China Sea could be a cause of conflict.

“I would like to understand if we can find ways to solve it based on the principle of freedom on the high seas. If we don’t, clashes cannot be avoided,” Kissinger said.

At the same time, he noted that a potential conflict between the United States and China, given existing weapons, could threaten to “destroy civilization.”

Kissinger underlined: “Now the most important will be the dialogue between the two leaders, where they agree that they have the most dangerous means in the world and that they will manage their policy in such a way as to reduce the possibility of a military conflict. between them. , and the use of these means.”

Speaking of Asia, in statements to the Wall Street Journal, Kissinger indicated that China seeks security, not global hegemony, although it seeks to be the region’s superpower, in its view.

Ukrainian crisis

Kissinger said earlier that the proposal to include Ukraine in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO” was a fatal mistake, pointing out that Kiev’s invitation to NATO led to the outbreak of the conflict armed.

He added, “We are now living in a completely new era,” noting that the geopolitical situation in the world will experience major changes after the end of the war in Ukraine.

A new cold war

Earlier, Henry Kissinger warned against entering a second Cold War, believing it would be more dangerous than the first.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Kissinger said: “A new cold war could start between China and the United States. The two countries have similar economic resources, which was not the case during the first cold war.

He added, “Beijing and Washington have now become adversaries, and it’s not worth waiting for China to become Western.”
