Aadhar-Ration Card Linking Update: The government is insisting on linking Aadhaar with ration card for the purpose of banning having more than one ration card.
The central government has extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with ration card till 30 September 2023. Earlier this deadline was till 30 June 2023. The Food and Public Distribution Department has issued a gazette notification regarding this order. In order to stop holding more than one ration card, the government is insisting on linking Aadhaar with ration card.
Actually, the government gives food grains and kerosene cheaply to all BPL families through ration cards from ration shops running under the public distribution system. Like Passport, Aadhaar and Voter ID, Ration Card also serves as a proof of identity and address for people. It is seen that many people have more than one ration card due to which they get more ration. Due to this, the needy are facing difficulty in getting cheap food grains.
After linking of Aadhaar with ration card, a person will not be able to hold more than one ration card. At the same time, no person will be able to take ration more than the fixed quota. This will ensure that only the needy get subsidized food grains.
