Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday concluded his first official visit to the US, saying a new, glorious journey of India-US relations has begun and the world is witnessing the two great democracies strengthening their ties. This was Modi’s last engagement in the US before leaving for Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Lauding the contribution and conduct of the Indian diaspora in the US, the Prime Minister credited them for strengthening bilateral ties. He described the relationship between the two countries as not only commercial and business, but also emotional. Modi announced that people of Indian origin will not have to leave the US for renewal of H-1B visas. The NRIs inside and outside the auditorium greeted the announcement with thunderous applause.

The Prime Minister claimed that professionals in the Information Technology (IT) sector would be benefited from this and a pilot project (in this regard) would be launched this month. He indicated that based on experience, this facility may also be made available in case of L-category visas (Visas relating to transfer to different branches of a company). Modi said ease of services for the Indian diaspora is a priority for India and the country will now open two new consulates, one in Seattle and two in other US cities. He told that America is also opening new consulates in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.

The Prime Minister said that a new and glorious journey of mutual relations between India and America has started in the last three days. It is known that during his three-day stay in Washington, Modi had in-depth talks with US President Joe Biden on various issues every day. He addressed the joint session of the US Congress (Parliament) as well as met young entrepreneurs and top CEOs (Chief Executive Officer). Concluding a very special visit to the US, Modi tweeted at the end of the US tour, during which I had the opportunity to participate in various programs and interactive sessions aimed at furthering the Indo-US friendship.
