Quordle Hints Today, August 20, 2026 (Puzzle #1669)

  1. All four answers contain the letter E.
  2. No answer repeats a letter, so duplicate hunting is wasted effort today.
  3. One answer is a comparative adjective, the kind that ends in ER.
  4. One is the column of bone running down your back, and one is what a volcano does.
  5. Two of the four share three letters in a row, but shifted one position apart.

What Are Today’s Quordle Answers? Daily Quordle #1669

The four Daily Quordle answers for #1669 are FINER, CLOSE, SPINE, and ERUPT.

Why Quordle #1669 Is Trickier Than an E in Every Box

A letter that appears in all four answers looks like a gift, and for one guess it is. Anything containing an E lights up every board at once, which almost never happens on a Quordle grid.

Then you look at where it landed. In ERUPT, the E is the first letter. In FINER, it is the fourth. In CLOSE and SPINE, it is the fifth. So a single opener returns a green, two yellows, and another yellow in four different places, and the four boards immediately stop agreeing with each other. The shared letter tells you the E exists everywhere and almost nothing about where to put it, which is the opposite of the help it appears to offer.

The absence of repeats is the quieter advantage. Not one of the four answers doubles a letter, so any guess spent testing a double is a guess wasted. On a board where all four grids are live at once, that matters more than it would in a single Wordle.

SPINE and FINER are where the puzzle actually turns. They share I, N and E consecutively, and in SPINE those three sit in positions three, four and five while in FINER they sit in two, three and four. The same run of letters, slid one place to the left. A solver who locks SPINE and then carries its letter positions across to the neighbouring box will get three yellows where they expected three greens, and the natural reading of that is that the letters are wrong rather than merely displaced.

CLOSE and ERUPT are the friendlier pair, sharing nothing with each other but that E. ERUPT is the one most people get first, because a five-letter word for what a volcano does is not hiding.
