Pasindu Sooriyabandara had already made 80 from 133 balls before Jadeja bowled him to end a century bid, and Dinusha then added 57 with Keshara Nuwantha and has since farmed the strike with Kumara.

The follow-on equation on day four

India declared on 503, so the follow-on threshold is 303. Sri Lanka are on 265. Reach 304 and the deficit drops to 199, which puts the follow-on out of Gill’s hands entirely. Fall short and India can send them back in with two full days left.Whether India would enforce it is a separate question, and not one the arithmetic answers. Their four frontline bowlers have already sent down 83.4 overs in humid conditions and Jadeja alone has bowled 19.4. Captains have increasingly declined the follow-on in Asian conditions to bat again and set a target instead. Gill has not indicated either way.
