NEW YORK — Chiron has spent weeks in Taurus. On September 17, it crosses back into Aries while retrograde, showing that the long cycle of identity work that seemed to be closing is not finished.
The asteroid associated with the wound that never fully heals returns to the sign where it has spent nearly a decade pressing against the question of whether you will begin the things that frighten you to begin.
The day unfolds through three lunar aspects:
- At 11:15 a.m. EDT, the Moon in Sagittarius sextiles Mercury in Libra, opening a window for clear, balanced communication.
- At 1:48 p.m., the Moon trines retrograde Saturn in Aries.
- At 11 p.m., the Moon trines Jupiter direct in Leo, completing a fire grand trine across all three fire signs.
Together, the aspects connect the lunar rhythm with structure and expansion in a single arc.
Chiron’s return to Aries is not incidental to that grand trine. Saturn and Chiron now both occupy Aries during the Moon’s fire passage through Sagittarius. What expands under tonight’s sky carries the wound question at its center.

Chiron retrograde at 0° Aries stands at the threshold of the sign. It returns from the edge of Taurus carrying what it was beginning to learn there, bringing it back to Aries’ most essential question: what needs to be initiated at the level of who you actually are, not who you manage to present. The retrograde phase turns this work inward. External boldness is not the point; its internal roots are.
Moon sextile Mercury at 11:15 AM EDT opens the morning’s clearest window. Mercury in Libra at 7-8 degrees carries the instinct to phrase things carefully and fairly. The Sagittarius Moon adds philosophical reach to that diplomacy, inviting conversations that cover more ground than usual without losing care for the other person.
The Moon’s trine with Saturn at 1:48 PM provides the structural spine the evening needs. Saturn retrograde in Aries is reconsidering initiative and what it costs to push forward; the Sagittarius Moon supplies the wider frame in which that reconsideration becomes productive rather than circular. This trine gives the later Moon-Jupiter expansion something to anchor to.
