LOS ANGELES — Paramount’s $82 million Street Fighter is on course to open below the studio’s own forecast, while A24 reports plenty of lines for its Elizabeth Holmes documentary, which opened in 855 North American locations. The Hollywood Reporter laid out Friday’s returns on Saturday, and the weekend figures in its report are projections, not final counts.
Street Fighter grossed $13 million on Friday, including Thursday previews, and is projected to open around $31 million from 3,575 North American theaters. Paramount had expected a debut in the mid-$30 millions, the same forecast TEH reported in its Street Fighter box office preview. The film adapts the Capcom video game and is the first release under Paramount’s distribution deal with Legendary.
It earned a B- CinemaScore. It holds 42 percent approval from Rotten Tomatoes critics and an audience score of 82, and The Hollywood Reporter’s critic Frank Scheck called it a “jumbled tonal mess” that is “only sporadically entertaining.”
A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary, You Can See Everything, took $5.5 million on Friday, including Thursday previews, and is headed for around $12 million, The Hollywood Reporter reported. That would beat the $7 million opening that gave Melania the biggest launch in the non-music documentary category in more than a decade. The studio reports roughly 750 sellout screenings for the weekend.

The trade also reported that 75 percent of ticket buyers in New York and Los Angeles were under 35, and that the film holds a 99 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audiences.
Behind them, Universal’s Other Mommy is heading for third place with about $7.8 million, a drop of roughly 72 percent after the D+ CinemaScore it earned in its opening weekend. 20th Century Studios’ Whalefall is expected to take about $7 million from 3,065 theaters, under the $11 million the studio had projected. It earned a B CinemaScore and carries a $60 million budget.
Focus Features’ Sense and Sensibility took $3.2 million on Friday, including previews, for an estimated opening of $6.7 million from 2,545 screens, with an A- CinemaScore. Georgia Oakley directed the adaptation, which carries a budget in the mid-$20 millions.
Every weekend figure here rests on Friday’s ticket sales, including Thursday previews. Whether Street Fighter’s $31 million survives Sunday’s estimates, and how a B- grade plays into a second weekend, is something Friday’s returns cannot say.
