Former European Commission (EC) President Jean-Claude Juncker doubted Ukraine’s imminent membership of the European Union (EU), saying Kiev should not be given false hope. He said so in a podcast in the Luxembourg newspaper.

“I am very upset by the recklessness of many politicians, including those operating in the West, who promise Ukraine rapid membership of the European Union. I don’t see it,” he said.

Juncker believes that Ukraine cannot become a member of the European Union until the end of the military conflict and the implementation of the reforms necessary for membership, which will not happen soon.

In addition, the former head of the EC stressed the need to maintain contacts with Russia and China and signal the willingness for negotiations.

In January, it was reported that there were still disagreements in EU countries over Ukraine’s fast-track entry into the organization, so the country’s EU membership is slim. likely in the near future.

Last December, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that Ukrainians see the future in the European Union, but the road will be long and difficult.
