Chinese Ambassador to France: Crimea was originally Russian

October 3, 2025

Chinese Ambassador to France Liu Shaye questioned the sovereignty of post-Soviet countries. And he said that Crimea was originally Russian. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Politics of the Country”

The Chinese diplomat made such statements while speaking on French television. Responding to the question of whether Crimea belongs to Ukraine, the ambassador answered without any details that the peninsula was “originally Russian.

He also announced the disputed sovereignty of the former republics of the USSR.

“In international law, the countries of the former Soviet Union have no valid status because there is no international agreement that would materialize their status as sovereign countries,” he said.

Previously, China presented a plan for the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. In the West, the plan was generally skeptical, except for France, Hungary and a number of other countries.
