Chinese Foreign Ministry calls US control over chip export to China ‘scientific and technical harassment’

US control over the export of chips to China as a deterrent is an example of “scientific and technical” bullying, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.

Earlier, the Financial Times published an article stating that the American authorities were asking South Korea to urge chipmakers not to supply them to the Chinese market – in the event of a ban on the activities of the American company Micron on this market.

According to Mao Ning, the American authorities, anxious to maintain their hegemony, force their allies to cooperate to contain China. The diplomat noted that such an agreement violates the principles of a market economy. Moreover, it is contrary to accepted international economic and trade rules.

“This is an example of science and technology bullying and trade protectionism,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said, stressing that China opposes it.

Speaking about China’s due diligence on Micron, Mao Ning noted that cybersecurity due diligence is standard procedure under current law.
