Berlin – Ironman last year’s winner Anne Haug has problems with swimming training because of the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Because she doesn’t come to a swimming pool, the 37-year-old has already considered “buying a paddling pool like many others now – but it’s totally difficult to get there,” said Haug of the “Eastern Herald”. “And I don’t know if it makes so much sense to paddle on the spot in a small swimming pool; if you don’t break more than it is useful, »she said.

The triathlete, who last year led Jan Frodeno to the Ironman in Hawaii for a German double victory, normally trains 35 to 40 hours a week. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the ex-world champion has reduced her scope. She no longer trains as usual at the Olympic base in Saarbrucken but moved to her parents in Bayreuth. «For me as a triathlete, my life is not that different from my normal life. I’m pretty much-doing everything in isolation, ”she said.

The fact that she can’t swim is really a big problem. She has not been in the pool for three weeks, and swimming is not her prime discipline. And that has consequences: “Of course it’s fatal, it throws you back a year.” It feels like you have to start with Adam and Eve. This specific force cannot be compensated for by anything, it is simply gone now. You have to rebuild this level over months, ”explained the endurance specialist.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, some triathlon events have been canceled or postponed. The Ironman in Hawaii is scheduled for October 10th.
