Corona Study: COVID-19 is not transmitted sexually

April 25, 2020
The SARS CoV-2 uses surface proteins to bind to ACE2 receptors.

A study by the Fertility and Sterility journal to find out whether COVID-19 is transmitted sexually or not has shown some promising results. The study was conducted on 34 adult Chinese males recovering from COVID-19.

According to a study published in the US National Library of Medicine , the entry of the nCoV-19(novel coronavirus) in the human body is mediated by the ACE2 receptors(Angiotensin Converting enzyme-2) present in the human body cells.

The diagnosis of COVID-19 is primarily made with the help of a technique called RT-PCR(Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction).

The study concluded that SARS COV-2 was not detected in the semen of recovering males even after a time-span of about a month. ACE-2 mediated entry of the nCOV-19 within the human testicles is therefore unlikely, the study has suggested.
