Russian President Vladimir Putin named the main expectations from the meeting with US President Joe Biden, which is to be held in Switzerland next week.

In an interview with the host of the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin ”to Pavel Zarubin, he said that, first of all, the parties intend to restore personal contacts and direct dialogue, as well as create really functioning mechanisms in areas in which Russia and the United States have mutual interests.

“To restore our personal contacts, relations, establish a direct dialogue, create really functioning mechanisms in those areas that represent mutual interests, there are such, I have already spoken about this,” the head of state said.

According to Putin, the summit may not be in vain if it is possible to create mechanisms for interaction in various areas. Among them, the president named strategic stability, regional conflicts, global ecology, as well as economic cooperation. Speaking about the reduction of negative rhetoric against Moscow on the part of Washington, Putin noted that one should not flatter oneself on this score, since the sides always try to reduce the degree of negativity before summit meetings. This, as the head of state emphasized, is being done in order to create a favorable environment for work.

Another aggravation of the contradictions between Russia and the United States occurred in March, after the United States imposed anti-Russian sanctions on charges of attempting to poison opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
