Pakistani security forces retook a police station in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi from Islamist militants, which they seized earlier on Friday. During the special operation, three militants who were in the building were killed. After that, a bomb squad was called to the evacuated police station.Taliban Islamists stormed the police station on Friday morning, killing two people and injuring 11 in a firefight and a series of explosions. Up to 30 police officers may have been in the building at the time of the attack, authorities said.The Pakistani Taliban’s Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.Security forces retook the building hours later, killing three activists, government officials said.The Islamist group TTP, independent of the Afghan Taliban, has recently stepped up attacks on buildings and police patrols in northwest Pakistan, saying it is part of their fight against the government in Islamabad.Karachi is one of the host cities of the Pakistan Cricket Super League, played by foreign players. A cricket match was scheduled for Saturday at Karachi Stadium. The occupied police station is located on the way to the stadium, and the foreign players’ hotel is located a few kilometers from the occupied building.
