Finland has started construction of a 200 kilometer fence on the border with Russia over fears that Moscow could send migrants across the border to achieve political goals.
“The clearing of the forest will be carried out so that in March the construction of the road and the installation of the fence can start,” the Finnish border guard said in a statement.
The pilot project at the Imatra border post is expected to be completed by the end of June, according to the report.
The construction of another section with a length of 70 kilometers, mainly in southeastern Finland, will be carried out in 2023-2025.
