Human Rights Project Gulagu.net published video with Alexei Navalny from Vladimir Colony No. 6, in which the politician is serving a long prison term.
The footage with Navalny was filmed on a video recorder attached to a Federal Prison Service employee’s clothing. The employee himself scolds the prisoner of the opposition for the short sleeves of his robe. In response, Navalny points out that the clothes given to him are small. Subsequently, the behavior of the politician was considered a “violation” and became the reason for his transfer to ShIZO.
Gulagu.net pointed out that the footage with Navalny appeared to project staff due to the leaking of Colony No. 6 video archives. Human rights activists promise to release many videos from this archive in the near future. It is alleged that they describe the facts of the most flagrant violation of human rights in the penitentiary establishment.
One of the leaders of the Russian opposition, Alexei Navalny, has been imprisoned since February 2021. Since then, he has repeatedly complained about the conditions of detention in the colony, which his lawyers and associates describe as “torture”. The opponent, in particular, claimed that they tortured him with insomnia, did not provide medical assistance, deliberately placed prisoners suffering from various diseases and who did not respect their personal hygiene in his cell, and had also prevented him from contacting the defenders and their relatives.
Since last August, the administration of Vladimir Colony No. 6 has sent Navalny eleven times to a punishment cell, a cell measuring 2 by 3 meters, where the prisoner must sit on an iron stool. The opponent spent more than a hundred days in the ShIZO, which affected his health. Navalny’s lawyer said his client’s eyesight deteriorated, he suffered from stomach pains and lost seven kilograms of weight.
At the beginning of February, it became known that Navalny was transferred to a cell-type room (PKT) for the maximum possible period of six months. PKT is a cell with a stricter detention regime, where people found guilty of gross violations of order are placed.
Currently, several criminal cases are being investigated against Navalny. Among other things, the Russian authorities accuse him of terrorism and extremism. Based on all the charges, a politician can spend about 30 years in prison.
