The United States deploys its first battery of hypersonic missiles by the end of the year

Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the world

Washington will deploy the first battery of long-range hypersonic missiles by the end of the year, said General Anthony Cotton, head of the US Strategic Command. The military stressed that this direction is a priority.

“At the end of 2023, the army plans to deploy a battery of long-range hypersonic weapons, and in the mid-2020s, a conventional operational strike program for the Navy will begin,” RIA Novosti quotes the general.

In 2027, the US Navy will receive sea-based hypersonic missiles, such as the Russian Zircon, in 2027, according to a message from Lockheed Martin Corporation.

The United States can get the sea-launched missiles that only Russia has today. We are talking about the “Zircon”, which is armed with the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov”. The American company has already received a contract for the production of vertical launchers and the first production batches of CPS on-board hypersonic missiles.

The cost of the contract is 1.2 billion dollars, but it can be almost doubled. Hypersonic missiles will be deployed on three Zumwalt-class destroyers.
