In Turkey, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, has been officially registered as a presidential candidate. He is supported by six Turkish opposition parties who hope that Kılıçdaroğlu can defeat the outgoing head of state, Recep Taip Erdogan, in the next elections.
According to local TV channel TRT Haber, the republic’s Central Election Commission had no questions regarding the documents submitted by Kılıçdaroğlu and the parties that nominated him. From now on, the politician will be able to start his electoral campaign.
Earlier it became known that the Turkish President and the only candidate of the “Republican Alliance” Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been officially nominated as a candidate for the presidential elections. A corresponding request has been submitted to the Supreme Electoral Council.
The country’s presidential elections are scheduled for May 14. Despite the devastating earthquakes suffered by the Turkish people, it was decided not to postpone the date of the vote. According to opinion polls, the current president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has a slight advantage.
