Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

President of the Supreme Court: the Pope called for the rapid opening of negotiations on Ukraine

Pope Francis believes that negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and Western countries will be the best outcome for all parties to the conflict. This was stated by the president of the World Union of Old Believers (WBU), Leonid Sevastyanov, who maintains a correspondence with the pontiff.

“The Pope always reaffirms his commitment to peace talks between Russia, Ukraine and the West. He thinks there is no other alternative to negotiations,” reports RIA Novosti.

Sevastyanov, referring to the pontiff, noted that sooner or later the parties will sit down at the negotiating table, but “after even greater destruction, death and human grief.”

Earlier, Pope Francis announced that he was ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelenskyyy to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He also recalled that he wanted to meet Putin last year. To do this, Francis went on foot to the Russian Embassy to the Holy See to arrange a meeting with the leader of Russia. At the same time, the pontiff had several video calls with the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill.
