The rally in Jerusalem brought together around 80,000 protesters against the coalition government’s adoption of judicial reform. This was reported by “360” with reference to The Times of Israel newspaper.
Rally participants first gathered near the Supreme Court building, but after the judge rejected a petition demanding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s resignation, they rushed to the parliament building.
As noted by the authors of the petition, due to the agreement on conflicts of interest due to criminal cases of corruption, the head of government should not participate in the discussion on judicial reform.
At 6 p.m. local time, pro-reform supporters will take to the streets of Jerusalem. The right-wing coalition parties have already organized transport from nearby settlements. Politicians who supported the reform called on their supporters to gather near the parliament building to show their superiority.
Recall that the rallies in Israel against judicial reform have been going on for 11 weeks. On the eve of large-scale demonstrations, according to unofficial data, from 600 to 700 thousand protesters gathered. The EU said it was monitoring the situation in the country, but did not plan to interfere in Israel’s internal affairs.
