Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to halt judicial reform that has sparked massive protests in the country. He stressed that in the context of the ongoing protests, the security of citizens and the Israeli economy were threatened, writes Reuters.
“I appeal to the Prime Minister, to the members of the government, to the companies and to the members of the coalition: the feelings are heavy and painful… In the name of unity with the people of Israel, in the name of responsibility entrusted to us, I urge you to immediately halt the legislative process,” Yitzhak Herzog said.
Large-scale protests in Israel against the reform of the country’s justice system promoted by Netanyahu have been ongoing for several weeks. Last Sunday, they were particularly numerous against the backdrop of the resignation on the decision of Prime Minister Defense Minister Yoav Galant, who called for a suspension of judicial reform.
