The German Ministry of Finance intends to agree in the Bundestag on an increase in the budget fund, from which financial assistance is provided to Ukraine. We are talking about increasing the corresponding support from 2.2 billion to 5.4 billion euros this year, writes Spiegel, referring to a written document from the ministry.
In particular, the letter indicates that the Ukrainian army is suffering serious losses in arms, including equipment. It is for this reason that the German authorities plan to considerably increase military assistance to Kiev in the coming years. To this end, the Ministry of Finance will raise the question of agreeing with a special commission to increase the fund “Strengthening partner states in the field of security, defense and stabilization”.
Spiegel writes that not only the Ministry of Finance of Germany, but the Ministry of Defense of the country in the coming years will send an additional 8.8 billion euros of budgetary funds for the same purposes. Most of the mentioned amount can go to air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks previously transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A closed meeting on this issue with the participation of representatives of the heads of the budget of the Federal Republic of Germany from the relevant departments of the Bundestag will be held on Tuesday, March 28. During it, presumably, a specific list of weapons necessary for Kiev will be considered.
Earlier on Monday, the German Ministry of Defense confirmed the arrival of 18 Leopard 2 type A6 tanks in Ukraine.
