The United Nations Security Council did not accept Russia’s resolution on the creation of a commission to investigate the sabotage of Nord Stream.
According to RIA Novosti, the document did not obtain 9 votes out of 15. The Russian Federation, China and Brazil voted for the adoption of the resolution. Also, for the adoption of the document, none of the permanent members of the UN Security Council had to vote against it.
If the resolution passes, the UN Security Council would ask the organization’s secretary-general to establish an independent international commission of inquiry, which would conduct an independent international investigation into all aspects of the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia may demand compensation for the explosion of Nord Stream pipelines. The Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that Western countries continue to sabotage the work.
Previously, the People’s Republic of China became a co-author of a Russian resolution to investigate Nord Stream sabotage. The document called on United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to set up a commission to independently investigate the incident.
