TASS: a new information system within the early warning system put on alert

March 30, 2023

A new information supply complex under the Missile Attack Warning System (SPRN) has been put on alert, a source told reporters.

To date, new command posts of the PRN system have been introduced. The next stage of modernization of the entire system is underway, said the interlocutor of the TASS agency.

Work is underway to move to an all-domestic electronic component base.

Official confirmation of the information has not been given.

The early warning system consists of two echelons: a space one, including Tundra satellites, and a terrestrial one – Voronezh type stations, connected to a network.

Tundra is a Unified Space System (EKS) “Dome” spacecraft, designed to detect missile launches and replaced the Oko-1 system.

The first satellite was supposed to be launched in the 4th quarter of 2014, but was not launched until November 17, 2015.

In December 2016, the First Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces, General Pavel Kurachenko, announced that by 2020 it was planned to put into operation about ten such satellites and build five warning radar stations early. According to TASS, ten devices will only be in orbit by 2022.
