On Friday, March 31, Estonian Chargé d’Affaires in the Russian Federation Yana Vanamelder was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. In retaliation, the Russian Foreign Ministry decided to urgently expel the Estonian diplomat on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
“Strong protest was expressed to the head of the Estonian diplomatic mission over the announcement on March 24 of ‘persona non grata’ without any reason by a diplomatic officer of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn,” the message reads. on the website of the said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry also noted that Moscow would be forced to take further retaliatory measures against anti-Russian provocations by Estonian authorities.
