Why do doctors recommend brushing teeth before and not after breakfast?

Brushing teeth is one of the important healthy habits to maintain oral and dental health, and it also helps prevent diseases related to the mouth and teeth.

While there is no disagreement on the importance of brushing the teeth, there is a disagreement about the time of brushing the teeth. In general terms, the teeth should be brushed twice a day at least, and with the blessed month of Ramadan and Muslims fasting for long hours, a medical opinion emerged advising brushing the teeth before breakfast. Not after, according to RT.

This opinion is supported by Dr. Sam Jethwa, Vice President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, as he says "Brushing your teeth before breakfast not only helps remove plaque buildup from your teeth, but it also aids in the production of saliva. Saliva also helps kill bacteria in your mouth".

Dr. Jethwa explained that brushing teeth immediately after eating an early meal can harm dental health, as he believes that brushing teeth too soon after eating breakfast may cause "In further damage to tooth enamel at a time when it is at its weakest".

This view is also shared by Dr. Alan Clarke, lead dentist at Paste Dental, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, who believes that brushing after a glass of orange juice is like brushing teeth with acid and bacteria, according to his description.

As Dr. Clark said: " "Brushing before breakfast helps remove these bacteria and the acidic environment that can damage tooth enamel". Healthline recommends waiting at least half an hour "The best way to ensure your teeth are protected and the enamel is not messed with". According to the New York Post.
