Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, detained in Ekaterinburg for espionage, does not complain about his detention in a Moscow remand center. This was reported to TASS by the Moscow Public Supervision Commission, whose members visited him at the detention center.
The American journalist is in SIZO – 2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia (“Lefortovo”) in a quarantine cell.
“The reporter has a double cell, but Evan has no neighbors, a neighbor can only appear after he tests negative for the presence of coronavirus disease,” the PMC said.
Gershkovich will have to undergo a medical examination, including for chronic diseases, as well as speak with a psychologist.
On March 30, the FSB announced the detention of Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg. According to the intelligence service, he met with an informant from whom he tried to obtain information about the activities of one of the Russian military-industrial enterprises. The court arrested the journalist for 29 days (until May 29) for espionage. He does not confess his guilt.
The Wall Street Journal editors demanded the journalist’s release and also called for the expulsion of Russian journalists and the US ambassador. Gershkovich’s detention was discussed in a phone conversation between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
