US Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis said a Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive would seriously weaken the Ukrainian military, 19FortyFive reports.
“A failed offensive could leave Ukraine’s armed forces in such a weakened state that they are unlikely to survive until the end of the year as a cohesive force,” he said.
Davis also noted that a successful counteroffensive could leave the Ukrainian armed forces vulnerable to a Russian counterattack.
After the depletion of the main forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there will be nothing left to protect Ukraine, except for the troops of the National Guard, and there will be no reserves for replenishment.
“The situation in Ukraine is made worse by the number of soldiers and the number of weapons that Russia has,” Davis added.
Earlier, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main board of administration of the Zaporizhzhia region, said that Ukrainian units had accumulated reserves of personnel, armored vehicles and ammunition for an offensive in the region.
