Experts explain whether you should drink 8 glasses of water a day

April 6, 2023

Doctors and scientists constantly talk about the importance of maintaining a drinking regimen. Everyone knows that drinking water is necessary for maintaining health, but the quantity is unclear. Among scientists, there is still debate on this issue.

Experts say the body’s fluid needs depend on many factors. It turns out that for most people, it’s enough to drink water when the need arises.

A recent study showed that the amount of fluid consumed and lost depends on many things. For example, age, gender, weight, physical activity level, environment, pregnancy, and socioeconomic status.

Scientists argue that the need for fluid is strictly individual, and there are no uniform recommendations. According to Medical Xpress, our bodies have receptors and hormones that help regulate water levels.

Experts point out that the body does not leave water for later use and excretes it in the urine. Therefore, drinking a lot will not work, all excess fluid will come out. Exceptions are the elderly and those taking certain medications.

A person can very well rely on the feeling of thirst. Your body will tell you when to drink water. It should be drunk more than usual in hot weather, in humid conditions and at altitude, as well as during physical activity and heavy perspiration. In addition, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly and young children need to drink more fluids.
