MADRID — A woman swept away beside a stream in Cabrera de Mar, north of Barcelona, on Saturday evening was found dead on Sunday, the only death Xinhua reported from Dana Adam, an isolated upper-level depression now soaking Spain’s Mediterranean coast. The Catalan fire service said on X that it had “located the body of the woman we had been searching for since last night” near the breakwater at the port of Premia de Mar. She had been with her husband and two children near the town’s municipal pavilion, close to a stream, when the water took her.
The larger test is farther south, in the Valencia region that suffered most in the October 2024 Spain floods. Aemet, the state weather agency, still had red rain warnings on the south coast of Valencia and the north coast of Alicante when its warning feed was generated at 02:21 UTC on Monday, with the red level running to 09:59 Madrid time. Orange rain warnings in the same feed covered Ibiza and Formentera, parts of Mallorca, Almería and Murcia.
Inside those warnings, Aemet’s own text records 90 mm of rain in one hour northwest of Gandia and around Pego, with the Pego reading easing. That is a figure quoted in a warning, not a gauge series TEH has seen. The agency’s expectation of 300 mm in some places over 24 hours is still a forecast.

Aemet’s special warning No. 37/2026, issued at 13:39 on Sunday, had put the heaviest falls along the south Valencia coast around Cape La Nao, with up to 200 to 300 mm in 12 hours and 300 to 400 mm locally across the whole episode. It also conceded that where the highest totals land is hard to pin down, and said it would not issue another special warning unless forecasts changed significantly. The rain was due to move on Monday toward the north of the Valencia region and Catalonia, easing from Tuesday.
Flights were diverted and cancelled at Ibiza Airport, Xinhua reported, and several municipalities in Valencia province suspended classes for Monday. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote on X that the government was “keeping a close eye” on the affected areas, in Xinhua’s translation, and told people to follow emergency services’ instructions.
Valencia has a recent yardstick. Al Jazeera counted at least 214 dead five days after the 2024 floods, 211 of them in the Valencia region.
What the night’s rain left behind is the fact still missing. As of 03:00 UTC on Monday, TEH found no gauge totals for the night, and no damage or casualty figures for Valencia or Alicante, in Aemet’s notices or in the outlets it cites. Whether the 300 mm Aemet thought possible landed on towns or on open ground is still unanswered.
