His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, affirmed the State of Qatar’s interest in preserving biodiversity and protecting all local creatures threatened with extinction because of its importance in preserving the environmental balance, including the project to protect hawksbill sea turtles. This came during the campaign organized by the Ministry to clean and rehabilitate Fuwairit Beach in the north of the country, marking the start of the sea turtle nesting season for the current year 2023. His Excellency said during his speech on this occasion "Today, we are rehabilitating and equipping Fuwairit Beach, marking the start of the sea turtle nesting season, and the release of many of its young, which contributes to the development of our local environment and increasing its biodiversity, including living organisms that are an important link in the chain of environmental balance, and in a way that contributes to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in all regions of the country. Qatar, environmental development is one of the four pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, and there is no doubt that achieving this vision is a national responsibility for all members of society".
His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change stated that the ministry has made strenuous efforts to preserve these endangered creatures, represented by the release of more than (40,000) baby turtles during the past five years, pointing out that for the first time, the ministry is raising 500 baby turtles with a success rate. It exceeded 85 percent, under the supervision and observation of the Ministry’s researchers, who conducted a number of research and studies on it. His Excellency also noted that the process of preserving and protecting the environment is a joint responsibility between the state and the local community, pointing to the responsibility of all individuals to work to protect the local environment and preserve the biodiversity it contains that characterized the state over the past many years, in a way that contributes to limiting the destruction of systems. Environment of all kinds, and work to carry out their duties to prevent environmental deterioration that threatens animals and plants in the long term due to some irresponsible things.
During the campaign to clean and rehabilitate Fuwairit Beach, Sheikh Shaqr Al-Shahwani, an Islamic preacher, gave a religious lecture on the importance of preserving the environment from an Islamic perspective. The hadiths of the Prophet stressed the importance of doing good to living beings, preserving them, and preserving their lives as part of God’s creation. As the Islamic preacher mentioned, religion urges people to take care of their environment in terms of cleanliness and care, and the importance of plants and trees in the life of society, mentioning in this context the warning of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, that if the Hour comes and one of you has a sapling in his hands, let him plant it. At the end of the campaign, His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change honored the representatives of the parties participating in the campaign and those who supported the Ministry’s efforts. The project to protect hawksbill sea turtles comes as part of the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to preserve sea turtles within the project to preserve wildlife in the State of Qatar, and work to protect them from extinction and not disturb the links of the food chain in the local environment.
