Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy said Russian technicians could cause MiG-29 fighters belonging to the Slovak armed forces to malfunction, EurActiv reports.
The fighters were handed over to the Ukrainian side the day before, since the Slovak army had not used them since August last year, but during the transfer it turned out that the fighters were out of service.
“They could fly, but they weren’t combat ready. Ukrainian specialists arrived in Slovakia, brought spare parts and inspected the planes,” the minister said.
According to him, the defects were deliberately created by Russian technicians, who served the fighters of the Sliac air base in Slovakia until last year. At the same time, Nagy added that the police had investigated the incident, but there was no evidence of deliberate damage to the engines by the plane.
Earlier it became known that representatives of Slovakia and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement on the donation of 13 MiG-29 fighters and 2 Kub anti-aircraft missile systems to Kiev.
