By July this year, Sweden could become a member of NATO. This assumption was made by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. According to him, the country’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance will happen soon.
“I expect Sweden to join Finland as two new NATO members by the NATO summit in Vilnius in July,” Blinken told Euronews.
Recall that last Tuesday Finland became the 31st member of the North Atlantic Alliance. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said no troops would be stationed in the country without a request.
But Sweden’s NATO membership process was temporarily halted due to the public Quran burning action in Stockholm, which took place in front of the Turkish Embassy. In Ankara, the incident caused a negative reaction.
