Novgorod historian fined 30,000 rubles for social media comments

April 8, 2023

The Novgorod court found the Novgorod historian, archaeologist and professor at Novgorod State University guilty of abusing media freedom. On social networks, the man commented on the number of fighters who died during military defense in Ukraine.

“The judge’s decision yesterday was expected. Guilty. The verdict is confirmed. 30 thousand to pay”

– responded to the decision of the judge in question.

An application for a historian was submitted by one of Moscow’s science journalists. According to the accused, in a personal conversation, the journalist denied this fact and confirmed his words in writing to the scientist’s lawyer.

For this reason, the application is considered anonymous. According to the historian, anonymous statements about administrative offenses are not taken into account. This was reported in the publication “FederalPress”.

Irina Levontina, a researcher at the Vinogradov Institute of Russian Language of the Russian Academy of Sciences, assured that the statements of the scientist are only a hypothesis of an evaluative nature and not affirmative.

Earlier, “The Eastern Herald in Veliky Novgorod” reported that the accountant of the Novgorod medical institution was suspected of fraud in the amount of 500,000 rubles.
