The so-called documentary was produced by Arafatul Islam, a multimedia journalist at DW, and members of the network are said to be “flying high” following its release. However, further investigation by outside sources has revealed the true motives behind the film, revealed Weekly Blitz.
Arafatul Islam’s ties to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)
Reports have emerged that Arafatul Islam, the mastermind behind the “documentary,” has connections to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) . According to initial findings, Islam was an activist for the party during his student years. These connections are now raising questions about the ethics behind DW’s “journalistic” practices.
Nafiz Md Alam alias Don, a known BNP activist
The individual presented as a “whistleblower” in the documentary, Nafiz Md Alam alias Don, has been exposed as a long-time activist of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune newspaper. He has regularly posted anti-Awami League content on his Facebook page for years, and his true identity was purposefully suppressed by Islam when presenting the documentary to DW policymakers. The Dhaka Tribune further noticed that Nafiz Mohammad Alam is a Chhatra Dal (student wing) activist of the BNP .
Instructions from BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman
Sources have revealed that Nafiz Md Alam alias Don, along with two other front-ranking BNP figures, were instructed by the party’s fugitive acting chairman Tarique Rahman to approach Deutsche Welle for making a “documentary†against the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Awami League government. This information is causing many to question the legitimacy of the documentary and DW’s involvement in the matter.

Further investigation into Nafiz Md Alam alias Don has also revealed a criminal past that includes facing a total of nine criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, dealing in drugs, hijacking, and extortion. On November 4, 2021, Nafiz Md Alam alias Don was apprehended along with two accomplices from Dhaka city’s Bashundhara residential area. They were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and a large volume of drugs and alcoholic beverages, including 361 bottles of foreign liquor, 299 cans of beer, Pethidine injection, Buprenorphine injection, Cannabis, etc. were seized from their possession.
Operating a drug syndicate
Nafiz Md Alam alias Don is also the ringleader of an organized drug syndicate operating within Dhaka city’s residential areas such as Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, and Bashundhara. The drug racket, called ‘Syndicate International,’ peddles drugs and alcoholic beverages through social media platforms, and Nafiz Md Alam alias Don maintains a gang of youth to deliver goods to clients. Members of the delivery unit of Nafiz Md Alam alias Don use motorcycles for faster delivery of drugs and alcoholic beverages.
