The Gulf Cooperation Council and a number of Gulf and Arab countries and Washington welcomed the announcement of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and Bahrain.
Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, welcomed the resumption of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Bahrain, which was announced after the second Qatari-Bahraini follow-up committee meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in Riyadh.
Al-Budaiwi said – according to the Qatar News Agency – that this step comes in line with the directives of their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries, at the (Al-Ula) Summit held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January 2021, which embodies the leaders’ concern for the future and entity of the Cooperation Council, and what it enjoys. The GCC countries are among the bonds of kinship, friendship, brotherhood, history, common destiny, and unity in the Gulf house, and in support of its blessed march.
For its part, the Sultanate of Oman welcomed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Qatar, and the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said – in a statement today, Thursday – that "This step would support and strengthen cooperation between brothers and joint Gulf action, for the benefit of all in the region".
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs – in a statement – "The State of Kuwait welcomed and blessed the agreement reached between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar regarding the reopening of the embassies of the two countries".
Kuwait confirmed that "This agreement embodies the bonds of friendship, brotherhood, unification and reunion in the Gulf home, and a step that strengthens the cohesion of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and supports its blessed path.".
In a statement today, Thursday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed the agreement reached during the second meeting of the Qatari-Bahraini Follow-up Committee regarding the return of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries.
Egypt affirmed its support for all efforts aimed at strengthening relations between brotherly Arab countries and overcoming any challenges that they might encounter, and praised the important positive development that the agreement represents in terms of advancing joint Arab action and affirming the unity of the Arab ranks, in the interest of strengthening ties and bonds among all Arab peoples and achieving their common interests.
Jordan announced its welcome to the agreement to restore diplomatic relations between Qatar and Bahrain, stressing that it serves common interests and enhances cooperation efforts between Arab countries.
The official spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sinan Majali, said that the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries is a great achievement, according to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), today, Thursday.
The spokesperson added: "The restoration of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Bahrain contributes to the support of Gulf and Arab solidarity, and enhances the ability of Arabs to face common challenges".
American encouragement For his part, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said, in a statement, that his country "Welcomes the restoration of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Qatar, two close partners of the United States and major non-NATO allies.
Sullivan explained "The United States has been working since the beginning of President Joe Biden’s administration to encourage regional integration, reduce escalation, and rapprochement among its partners".
The US official confirmed that "A fully unified Gulf Cooperation Council, of which Qatar and Bahrain are key members, is an important step towards creating a more stable and prosperous Middle East, through more integrated trade, economic and defense arrangements."according to the statement.
