Finland will continue to build a border fence with Russia

April 14, 2023

Finnish border guards have confirmed the deadline for the construction of a border fence at the Russian border and will start construction of a 75 kilometer stretch.

“The level of costs reached during the public tender for the pilot project turned out to be significantly lower than the project budget. However, no direct conclusions can be drawn on the level of future costs, as some of the target sites are located in areas that are much more difficult to access,” construction project manager ismo Kurki said in a statement. .

The pilot site will be ready by June.

On February 28, it became known that in Finland they began to build a fence on the border with Russia.

In July last year, Finland’s parliament passed a law to strengthen border security with Russia. It gives Helsinki the right to approve the construction of “fences or other obstacles” on the Russian-Finnish border and to direct all asylum applications to one or more border posts.
