Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law introducing criminal liability for the deliberate destruction, illegal collection and trafficking of particularly valuable plants and fungi that are listed in Russia’s Red Book or protected by Russia’s international treaties .
The text of the document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information. So, a new article appeared in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the maximum penalty of which is up to nine years in prison with a fine of up to three million rubles. Previously, the criminal protection of Red Book plants and fungi was not regulated by law. Liability was established only on the fact of the illegal destruction, extraction and trafficking of particularly valuable wild animals and living aquatic resources listed in the Red Book.
Earlier, Zvezda showed how a Muscovite installed wild cats from the Red Book in Stalinka. Predators were seized by employees of the inter-district prosecutor’s office.
