The Public Works Authority has ended "works" Recently, the development works of a vital part of Al Wukair Road were carried out and the two roundabouts on it were converted into signal-controlled intersections.
The works included developing a part of Al Wukair Road with two main lanes, starting from its intersection with Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani Street and extending 2 km towards Al Mashaf, in addition to developing a service road with a length of 4 km.
The two existing roundabouts, known as the Health Center Roundabout and Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout, were converted into two intersections with light signals, and multiple lanes were provided at the two intersections, which contributed to improving the traffic flow at them. This is in addition to the development of lighting systems, the installation of 110 street lighting poles, and the provision of pedestrian paths with a length of about 4 km.
As for the infrastructure works, they included modernizing the treated water network lines with a length of 3 km and the surface and rainwater drainage network with a length of 5 km, in addition to modernizing and protecting the electricity and communications lines.
The works carried out on this part of Al Wukair Road are in addition to the development work of a total of 12 km of roads in the region, which the authority announced its completion in October 2022. It included the development of Al Wukair Road in the part located west of Al Janoub Stadium and parts of the streets perpendicular to it, in addition to the construction of 8 intersections. with it. The development works have contributed to increasing the capacity of roads and regulating traffic in the area.
It is worth noting that the Public Works Authority is currently carrying out construction works to develop the sewage infrastructure for this area near Al Wukair Road, as part of the design and construction of sub-sewer network lines project. Excavation work is currently underway for 10 entrances within Al Wukair Road and Al Jamia Street. These works are scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.
