Peshawar: At least two Afghan civilians were killed, eight others injured and nearly 20 trucks buried in a massive landslide on Tuesday morning on a major highway near the border town of Torkham in northwestern Pakistan. According to reports, a landslide occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on the main road passing through the Khyber Pass in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghanistan border, which buried several trucks carrying goods. According to rescue officials, two Afghan nationals were killed in the landslide and authorities are making efforts to recover their bodies.
“Two Afghan nationals were killed in the landslide and authorities are trying to recover their bodies,” the paper quoted Abdul Nasir Khan, deputy commissioner of Khyber district, as saying. At least eight people have been injured and have been given first aid.” Other officials said the debris of the landslide was huge and the help of heavy machinery was being taken in the rescue operation. The incident took place on the main road connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan. Meanwhile, officials also informed that the fire broke out soon after the landslide, as the truck drivers were cooking food for Sehri on a gas stove. The fire has now been brought under control.
