Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Popular omens on April 18, the day of Fedul Vetrenik: what Saratov residents do not need to do on Tuesday

On Tuesday April 18, the Orthodox Church commemorates the martyrs Deacon Agathopod and Reader Théodule. During the period of persecution of Christians, they continued to actively preach the gospel, for which they were sent to prison. There the believers were asked to renounce Christ, which they refused. After that, the persecutors decided to deal with them and threw the men into the sea.

In Rus’ they believed that from that day the warm spring winds began to blow. “Fedul came – he pouted,” our ancestors repeated. In Fedul, the peasants opened the windows wide and told them of the evil spirits.

According to folk signs, if it rains heavily on April 18, summer will be mushroom. Warm rain – for the harvest, the birches give a lot of juice – there will be no more frosts, the swallows have not yet arrived – it will soon be colder.

Today you have to wash the windows (clean glass brings good luck), wash the towels and hang them outside to dry, and also walk a lot in the fresh air. You can’t pick up coins at intersections, throw something out the window, let house cats go out on the street.
