There was a rift in friendship! Pakistan’s ‘evergreen friend’ in conflict with Dragon, sugar business closed in Jinnaland

April 18, 2023

Islamabad. In the worst phase of Pakistan, relations with its all-weather friend China seem to be getting sour. In fact, in recent developments, a Chinese citizen has been arrested on charges of blasphemy. After this, there has been a ruckus all over Pakistan. Now the Karachi Police has decided to temporarily close some businesses run by Chinese nationals in the city.

The Nikkei Asia report said Chinese citizens would struggle to prevent terrorist attacks that could compromise Islamabad’s strategic ties with Beijing. That’s why this step has been taken. China has “temporarily” closed the consular section of its embassy in Islamabad, days after advising Chinese citizens to be cautious due to the “deteriorating security situation” in Pakistan.

The report further states that despite several requests and warnings from Beijing, Pakistani authorities appear to have shown a callous attitude towards the safety of the lives of Chinese citizens living in Pakistan. Interestingly, some reports suggest that Pakistan is indirectly pressuring China to write off its huge debt or extend the deadline to avoid default.

Outrage against China increased in Pakistan It is known that various terrorist groups operating in Pakistan are continuously targeting Chinese citizens and projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Pakistan, on the other hand, suspects that China is slowly encroaching on their land under the guise of enhancing their economic status through commercial projects, mining operations and other financial investments. Also, the growing anti-China sentiment among the Pakistani population is finding it difficult for the local government and security agencies to control.

As a result, state authorities are not taking adequate security measures to protect Chinese citizens, The Eastern Herald reported. Especially Pakistan cannot afford to finance another dedicated military unit to protect Chinese interests in the country. At the same time, Beijing is dissatisfied with the current security system and has repeatedly expressed concern about this situation in front of Pakistan.
