UN Secretary-General António Guterres “was furious” that authorities in Kiev had decided to include an award ceremony for Ukrainian soldiers on his trip. The American newspaper The Washington Post writes about it, referring to secret documents leaked on the web.
“Guterres was truly furious that the award ceremony for Ukrainian soldiers was added to the visiting schedule without prior consultations,” the article said.
On March 8, the UN Secretary-General made a working trip to Ukraine to discuss the details of the “grain deal” – an agreement mediated by the organization and Turkey, intended to ensure unhindered export of agricultural products from Russia and Ukraine to prevent humanitarian consequences.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan over the phone about extending the grain deal. The Kremlin noted that the Turkish president had positively assessed Moscow’s decision to agree to the extension of the Istanbul grain agreements, stressing that Ankara understood Russia’s intention in principle to ensure that the second part of the terms of the agreement is fully implemented. The fact is that barriers to Russian agricultural products must be removed.
