What does Elon Musk say on running Twitter with only 1500 employees, you also know…

New Delhi. After buying Twitter late last year, Elon Musk laid off thousands of employees to reduce additional costs. Musk also revealed that Twitter employed about 1,500 employees, up from 8,500 before its acquisition. However, Musk said that not all previous employees were laid off, but some left voluntarily. This was due to the refusal of employees in top and mid-senior roles to conform to the “hardcore” work culture, which involved endless hours of duty. Months after his acquisition, Musk revealed what it’s like to run Twitter, a massive social media platform used by the world’s most important and well-known politicians and leaders, with just 1,500 employees.

During an interview with Fox News, Musk reiterated that Twitter is overstaffed and cannot operate like a non-profit organization. He says, “It turns out you don’t need that many people to run Twitter. If you’re not trying to run some sort of glorified activist organization and you don’t care too much about censorship, So you can really let go of a lot of people.”

Asked whether other CEOs have taken the advice of reducing the workforce, especially as tech companies are laying off employees on a large scale and amid poor macroeconomic conditions, Musk suggests that he spends most of his time spend time at work and do not interact with other CEOs. He again justified the massive Twitter layoffs by saying that under previous management the company did not create new products.

Musk says, “If you look at what product development has been over time with Twitter, you know years versus product improvements, it’s kind of a pretty flat line. It took a year to add an edit button.” Which doesn’t work most of the time. It was a comedy situation. You’re not building a car. The real question is how did it get absurdly overstaffed, it’s crazy.”

Currently, Twitter consists mainly of employees from the Product and Engineering divisions. The company has laid off employees in the HR and public relations teams.

Since his acquisition in late November last year, Musk has repeatedly said he wants Twitter to be a platform for free speech and fairness. Musk relaunched Twitter Blue subscriptions with a major feature. Users who subscribe to Twitter’s Blue membership will automatically be verified, which could be a game changer once the legacy Blue badges are removed from April 20.

However, Musk is still struggling to increase the company’s revenue. In a separate interview, he revealed that the company lost some advertisers after the acquisition. The Wall Street Journal reported last year that Twitter’s revenue and adjusted earnings in December 2022 fell nearly 40 percent year over year.
